Unisex Sweatshirt

This shirt is to commemorate the life and legacy of Denver Lee Wright, a shining example of "being a power for good in society." Proceeds from the sales of these shirts, along with donations and gifts, will be used to help create an endowment through Benedict College, the Denver L. Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will assist worthy students with their scholastic endeavors.

Denver Lee Wright was born March 17, 1950, to the late J.P. and Margerie Murph Wright in Calhoun County. A 1968 graduate of St. Mathews High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Benedict College in 1975. Mr. Wright was employed with Benedict College for 44 years as the “Chief Recruiter,” and was responsible for thousands of students continuing their education. He has traveled throughout the United States for Benedict College.

Mr. Wright was the first African American to integrate the former St. Matthews High School in 1967. He became a trailblazer during a critical time of the civil rights movement. He was selected as the outstanding Benedict College staff member of the year 2001-2002. Mr. Wright was the owner the Southeastern Float Company Inc., and employed by Jenkins funeral home in St. Matthews & Cameron for 35 years. He was also a member of Mount Carmel Baptist, Church, of St. Matthews, where he served as an active part of the Deacon Ministry, Youth Advisor, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Angelic Choir, the Brotherhood Club and the Male Chorus.

Denver was a founding member of Calhoun County Resources Inc. (CCRI), and the Orangeburg County Young Farmers.
